General Guidelines for Participants in UBC Chanoyu Study Group
Participants are not expected to have any knowledge of the Japanese Way of Tea, but those with some prior experience are also warmly welcomed.
Knowledge of Japanese language is not required. Sessions will be held primarily in English, with an introduction to various words and phrases in Japanese that are commonly used in the tea room. It is anticipated that there will be participants from both Japanese and non-Japanese cultural backgrounds and discussion about relevant cultural comparisons is highly encouraged. Please adhere to the following guidelines for the sake of efficiency as well as respect for the space and your co-participants:
